For more than two years, Rep. Adam Schiff claimed that he had overwhelming evidence that President Donald Trump “colluded” with Russia to “steal the election” from Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“I certainly said there’s ample evidence of collusion,” Schiff claimed during an appearance on “The View” when asked about it by co-host Megan McCain in March 2018.
“If you look at the facts that are already in the public domain, they’re pretty damning starting with George Papadopoulos,” he continued.
“We know that Papadopoulos was approached by the Russians and told back in April of the election year (2016) before the Clinton campaign knew that the Russians had stolen … DNC e-mails and we also know they previewed their anonymous dissemination of those e-mails with Papadopoulos back in April,” the California Democrat and chairman of the House Intelligence Committee noted.
“Now it was only weeks later that the Russians made a second approach to the Trump campaign, this time at the highest levels at Trump Tower in a meeting that they previewed by saying that they wanted to offer incriminating information about Hillary,” Schiff said.
None of this is accurate. As for Papadopoulos, we know that he was set up by rogue FBI agents under James Comey and Andrew McCabe who launched “Crossfire Hurricane” — a.k.a. Spygate — to undermine President Trump’s 2016 campaign and then his administration after he won.
Plus, even the very biased ‘Russian collusion’ investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller concluded there was no evidence to support the allegation (because it was made up to begin with).
Now, here’s comes Schiff again lying about “evidence” he claims he has indicating that Vice President Mike Pence is guilty of corruption involving Ukraine.
“Well, we have acquired a piece of evidence, classified by Jennifer Williams, something she alluded to in her open testimony,” he said during an interview on MSNBC last week, alluding to one of the witnesses who ‘testified’ before his sham impeachment hearing.
“Then going back and looking through her records she found other information that was pertinent to that phone call that we asked her about and made that submission. There is nothing that is classified in the document but the vice president’s office has said they are going to classify,” Schiff claimed. (Related: “Ukraine” whistleblower suddenly not going to testify before Adam Schiff’s secret committee — so what’s the “impeachment inquiry” really for?)
“It is not proper to classify something because it would be embarrassing or incriminating. And that submission does shed light on the vice president’s knowledge. We think the American people should see it,” he added.
First of all, Schiff is lying about what the White House can and cannot ‘classify.’ Like the Legislative Branch he represents, the Executive Branch has authorities and powers granted to it by the Constitution and under legal precedent.
Keeping communications between the president and vice president and world leaders they each converse with classified and private is not at all improper or illegal. In fact, it’s expected so that they can have frank and open conversations.
Also, the only ‘witness’ that appeared before Schiff’s committee who even heard a phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — U.S. Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland — admitted under questioning by Republicans that Trump hadn’t done anything wrong.
So Pence couldn’t have, either.
Sondland also claimed under oath that he voiced “concerns” about the July phone call to Pence, but Pence’s office pushed back hard against him.
“I mentioned to Vice President Pence before the meeting with the Ukrainians that I had concerns that the delay in aid had become tied to the issue of investigations,” Sondland testified.
Marc Short, Pence’s chief of staff, replied, “Ambassador Gordon Sondland was never alone with Vice President Pence on the September 1 trip to Poland. This alleged discussion recalled by Ambassador Sondland never happened.”
Adam Schiff embodies everything that is wrong with Congress and American politics today.
