President Biden finally withdrew himself from the presidential race amid growing concerns about his mental state, and while many Americans felt it was long overdue, there is no getting around the fact that it is very late in the game for such a huge shake-up. We’re hearing a lot of insiders finally admit out loud that he hasn’t been right for quite some time, but if that’s true, why did they wait so long to get him to step aside?
One very real possibility is that a lot of Democrats were victims of the same censorship machine that kept Americans in the dark about lots of other topics, from COVID-19 vaccine dangers to the situation at the border. We all know what great lengths they are willing to go to conceal the truth from Americans.
As Biden’s cognitive struggles became painfully obvious, many conservatives expressed worries about who was running the country. In response, the liberal-run mainstream media and social media labeled these concerns about Biden’s mental health “misinformation,” peddling the lie that this was all somehow a big smear campaign designed to undermine Biden rather than anything that had a basis in reality. They acted as though questions about whether Biden had undergone any cognitive tests were completely outrageous, and they made up all manner of excuses for his gaffes, from a lack of sleep to misleading camera angles.
When they couldn’t explain away his faux pas, they tried to cover them up and pretend like they never happened. For example, the time he acted strangely at a D-Day anniversary event in France, wandering away from world leaders to talk to a parachuter, and the time he seemed unsure where to sit down, were dismissed by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre as “cheap fakes”, a label that they clearly hoped would pressure social media companies to remove the videos, even though they were 100% unmanipulated footage of actual events.
Those who were “in the know” did such a good job pretending everything was great that some higher-ups in the party bought into it. Even those who should have known better might have believed their own lies, if for no other reason than because they wanted to.
The Brownstone Institute’s Bret Swanson defines this “disinformation” as a disorder. “At some point, the tactic becomes a strategy and then turns to addiction. The power of propaganda and censorship is seductive. Along the way, you mislead your followers over an epistemic cliff, and you lose touch with reality yourself,” he wrote.
The façade was all blown out of the water by the debate, where Biden couldn’t rely on his usual fallbacks, like reading off a teleprompter, being redirected by his wife, or simply calling an end to the questioning. He had to stand on his own, and it quickly became clear he wasn’t up to the task. It was painfully obvious to tens of millions of Americans that he was not okay, and there would be no way his supporters could spin it in the morning.
It was only then that some on the left started to openly discuss Biden’s mental health. Suddenly those who kept quiet out of fears they’d be accused of betraying Biden or being cast out of their party were willing to admit that he had been disoriented and unpredictable for some time.
After all, time was quickly running out. Once the “secret” was out in the open, they couldn’t get him out of there fast enough – even though they had spent months, if not years, brushing off doubts about his mental acuity as misinformation. Now they’re paying the price for those lies, scrambling to hold onto their chances at the presidency with an unpopular candidate and little time to right the ship.
