We now know, thanks to the efforts of Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Ia.), that Thomas Crooks “vigorously trained,” to quote one source, at the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club where federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other spook agencies also train.
This is significant because DHS oversees the U.S. Secret Service, which “dropped the ball,” to give the agency the benefit of the doubt, in keeping Donald Trump safe at his rally in Butler, Penn.
In the year prior to aiming at Trump and pulling the trigger, Crooks visited Clairton 43 separate times, including on all of the major holidays that occurred during that time, i.e., Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s. Records show that Crooks joined the club on Aug. 10, 2023.
While at Clairton, Crooks trained almost exclusively with rifles rather than handguns, Sen. Grassley’s report claims. Crooks was also at Clairton on July 12, 2024, just one day before the assassination attempt in Butler.
“THIS shooting range was crawling with Feds, where multiple Local & Federal Law Enforcement agencies trained at, including the Dept of Homeland Security, which oversees Secret Service,” tweeted the “MJTruthUltra” (@MJTruthUltra) X account.
“Crooks was at the range within a DHS training session.”

Fox News ran a report – watch below – that looked at other aspects of the July 13 shooting, including police bodycam footage showing that nobody was on the roof to stop Crooks before the incident:

Clairton is a fairly high-dollar place, mind you, which begs the question as to where Crooks got the money to train there so many times in less than a year before doing the deed in Butler.
“What 20 year old has enough money to shoot 3.5 times per month?” someone on X asked about this.
Another speculated that the powers that be (TPTB) want this whole Crooks situation to go away, at least until after the election in November.
“He was trained by the government,” another user, investigative journalist Rich Marin (@RichMarinKT), speculated about Crooks’ involvement with DHS. “This is a much bigger conspiracy. I have names who were involved in the fed side bringing him in.”
If you are interested in reading Marin’s report on the subject, you can do so here.
“It’s the Friday target practice that is tell tale,” said someone else about the situation with Crooks. “This is just after the final security assignments were made. How did Crooks know that NOT ONE of the three man Pa Sniper Team would stand their post that Saturday in July?”
Generally speaking, most people on X seem to think that the “official” story surrounding what happened on July 13 “stinks,” including the idea that Crooks was some kind of lone ranger who did this of his own volition.
“Anyone could see, the idea that this building is ‘outside the USSS perimeter’ but they wouldn’t even want to know that it was being covered, does not make sense,” one of them wrote. “Thomas Crooks did not do this, by any stretch, alone. No way.”
“No doubt an attempt at grassy Knoll 2.0. Inside job all day long maybe not directly a government individual but at the very least our government culpable with the lack of due diligence on the site itself. Too many glaring misses to be an accident by the so-called Secret Service.”
