Should he be elected president this fall, Joe Biden has already promised to go after America’s quiet suburbs and force them to become more “diverse.”
Piggy-backing off of an Obama-era policy that aimed to bring the slums into suburbia, Biden wants to take things a step further by building a whole lot more public housing for racial and ethnic “minorities” in America’s nicest neighborhoods.
Part of the plan is to make suburban neighborhoods denser, as well as put more taxpayer-subsidized multi-family housing in areas where single-family housing has traditionally been the norm.
“Biden and his party have embraced yet another dream of the radical Left: a federal takeover, transformation, and de facto urbanization of America’s suburbs,” writes Stanley Kurtz for National Review.
“What’s more, Biden just might be able to pull off this ‘fundamental transformation.'”
It all started back in 2013 when Barack Obama passed regulations mandating that neighborhoods with no record of housing discrimination build more “affordable” housing geared towards non-whites. In 2015, Obama moved forward with implementing these regulations, requiring that affluent areas bring in more non-whites as a caveat to receive federal grant money.
If he captures the White House in just a few short months, Biden will take this Obama-era initiative and pump it with steroids. Clean, safe suburban neighborhoods will quickly become a thing of the past – abolished, if you will – all in the name of promoting multiculturalism.
“If suburban voters knew what the Democrats had in store for them, they’d run screaming in the other direction,” Kurtz adds. “Unfortunately, Republicans have been too clueless or timid to make an issue of the Democrats’ anti-suburban plans. It’s time to tell voters the truth.”
Known as “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing,” or AFFH, this Obama-era initiative would be fully enforced under a Biden presidency. And in no time at all, America’s suburbs would quickly disappear, leaving behind a wave of “ghetto” culture typical to the inner cities.
Not only that, but Biden is actually planning to take the AFFH a step further, embracing Cory Booker’s strategy to eliminate all single-family zoning. Much like what California and other states are trying to do, the end result would be “little downtowns” all throughout America’s suburbs.
“Combine the Obama-Biden administration’s radical AFFH regulation with Booker’s new strategy, and I don’t see how the suburbs can retain their ability to govern themselves,” Kurtz warns.
“It will mean the end of local control, the end of a style of living that many people prefer to the city, and therefore the end of meaningful choice in how Americans can live. Shouldn’t voters know that this is what’s at stake in the election?”
This crafty anti-suburban agenda has been in the works for quite some time now, though the Left has had to get creative in bringing about its implementation. Since it is illegal for large cities to annex suburban areas without voter consent, the Left had to resort to other means.
In effect, the plan is three-fold: force “economic integration” into the suburbs; shut down suburban growth with onerous regulations and policies; and weaponize the law to force suburban tax money to be redistributed to poorer areas.
“If you force urbanites into suburbs, force suburbanites back into cities, and redistribute suburban tax revenue, then presto! You have effectively abolished the suburbs,” Kurtz says.
“Once Biden starts to enforce AFFH the way Obama’s administration originally meant it to work, it will be as if America’s suburbs had been swallowed up by the cities they surround,” he concludes.
